Blessing of the Graves
3rd June 2025
On Tuesday afternoon, the Year 7 Liturgy Leaders visited the Nun’s graveyard, located a short walk from the school. They were accompanied by our School Chaplain, Siobhan, and Mr Kassapian. At the graveyard, we were joined by Fr Kevin from Holy Family Church and Anne, a former Teacher of Chemistry at St Bernard’s and parishioner of Holy Family.
During the visit, we participated in a blessing of the graves, and Fr Kevin shared insights into the history of St Bernard’s Chapel, highlighting its significance to the local Catholic community at the time of its founding. We concluded the visit by laying flowers at the grave of Dame Lucie and offering a prayer in her memory.
The graveyard once formed part of the school grounds, which extended back to the railway line. This land was sold by the sisters for a housing development in 2013.
Pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school in the local community and although we all got a bit wet in the rain, the sun eventually shone!
