We are fortunate to have a number of well-qualified, experienced and enthusiastic visiting instrumental and singing teachers providing individual music lessons on a private basis. Instruments offered include piano, guitar (classical, folk, rock and pop, bass etc.,) woodwind (flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone,) strings (violin, viola, cello and double bass) and brass. Lessons in other instruments can be made available where there is a call for them. Male and female singing teachers ensure that, whatever style of singing students ultimately aspire to, they establish a sound technique enabling them to perform comfortably across a range of music.
Our practice is to organise lessons on a rota throughout the day, liaising with subject teachers to ensure that arrangements work successfully. Most lessons last for 30 minutes, although 20 minute and shared lessons are sometimes offered. Senior students’ lessons are scheduled during their study periods and breaks.
The pleasure and positive effects derived from practical music lessons are well-known and we very much hope that many students will choose to pursue a skill which could provide them with a lifetime of enjoyment. Anyone who would like further details about what we offer is very welcome to contact the music department.
Orchestras, Choirs and Bands
