Parent Governor Election

I would like to clarify the position regarding eligibility to vote in the Parent Governor election. Parent Governors are elected by and from the parents and guardians of children at the school. Anyone who is the parent or the guardian of a child attending the school is entitled to vote in the election. Each parent is, therefore, entitled to a vote. A parent who has more than one child in the school is still entitled only to a single vote.

Some confusion may have been caused by the fact that all children were issued with a ballot form for their parents on Monday, which has resulted in some parents thinking that they were entitled to more than one vote. In order to correct the situation, and to comply with new legislation on this matter, the process is beginning again and each family is being issued with a ballot paper for each parent. The ballot papers are numbered in order to ensure that every parent receives only one ballot, and that there is no possibility of duplication. The numbers have been allocated in a random order to ensure anonymity.

Those votes which have already been sent into school will be declared null and void.

I apologise for any confusion which may have been caused. All other matters relating to the parent ballot included in the original letter remain the same. Ballot papers should be returned to school by Wednesday 26 November 2008. I remind candidates that they are entitled to attend to observe the count.

Yours sincerely

JULIE DENDY
Clerk to the Governing Body
