Parents’ Forum Recruitment

Dear Parents,

The Parents’ Forum at St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School

Come and join us!

Next meeting: Monday 19th November 2012

We are the group of parents who represent parents’ views and help to support the school. We are enthusiastic volunteers who respond to parents’ requests for help and advice on school life. We put forward suggestions that will help others.

We work with the school on such things as seeking parents’ views on school matters and news about school activities. We have set up a ‘skills register’ of parents who can help with things such as work-experience or accompanying students on trips. We also help to match requests for lifts to and from school.

Please let us know if you can help with any of these or let us know if we can help you.

This year we hope to help support the school’s partnership with Sinethemba High School in Cape Town and to help update the website.

We would love to hear your ideas and suggestions on these or other topics.

 We warmly invite you to join the Parents’ Forum. We meet about four  times a year. Please see the details below which explain who we are and  more about what we do. Please let us know if you would like to join  us.  You can email us - details below - or contact us through the school.

 We look forward to meeting you.

What is the Parents’ Forum?

We set up the Parents’ Forum in November 2007 to bring parents’ views into school and to help each other and the school by sharing ideas, information and advice on all aspects of school life that involve us as parents.

Our names are:

Amanda Bausor - (Contact Amanda)
Linda Somerville-Hall
Susy Shearer

How can the Parents’ Forum help you?

We welcome your ideas on what you would like us to work on and your requests for help.Please fill in the questionnaire below or contact us by email or through the school office.

How can you help the Forum?

We are always keen to welcome new members so please contact us if you would like to join. We are also interested in any skills, information and knowledge you have that could benefit the school so do please share this with us. Some parents have offered work-experience for Year 11 students or offered to help with a club or activity. We are looking for parents who can accompany school trips so please let us know if you can help.

Sharing lifts to school:
Please let us know if you would like to share lifts with other families. Please tell us your postcode and how many spaces you have in your car. We will put you in touch with another family in your area who want to lift share or tell parents we have an offer in your postcode area.

Accompanying school trips
Please let us know if you would like to accompany school trips (other than the ones your son or daughter is doing). Please tell us when you are available, how much notice you will need of a trip and if you would be able to accompany a residential trip. As the CRB check we need for these trips is quite expensive, we appreciate that this will need to be a firm commitment.

Request for help with driving school minibus.
 The school uses the Minibus extensively.  The majority of these trips are during the body of the school day, or immediately afterwards, and for short journeys taking students to other schools for sports and other events.  A number of teachers and support staff are volunteer drivers, but their use takes them away from their regular duties. If there are parents who would be prepared to drive the minibus as a “Volunteer Driver” and have time to do so, we would like to hear from you.

 In order to drive the minibus, you need to be trained.  This is a one-day course called MiDAS, which takes place in and is paid for by the school.  Not everyone may be eligible to take the minibus test:

  • If a full UK driving test was taken before the 1st January 1997, D1 will be displayed on your driving licence – this is needed this in order to take the MiDAS test;
  • CRB checks will be required;

The school’s insurance policy covers qualified minibus drivers.

 If you have further questions, please contact either Mrs Mellish (Bursar) or Mr Stimpson (Deputy Head Pastoral) at school.
